I am a scholar and writer interested in political and social theory, intellectual history, and contemporary politics. I’m currently an assistant professor of political science at Columbia University. I previously received my PhD in political theory from the University of Chicago, and have taught at Chicago, Yale, and Oxford as a postdoctoral fellow or lecturer.

My primary academic interests are in political and social theory, both historical and contemporary. Before going into academia, I worked as a political journalist, and I continue to write about contemporary politics for a general audience. I am currently finishing a book on early modern social theory entitled Children of Pride, under contract with Cambridge University Press. Other work has appeared in scholarly journals like Political Theory, Modern Intellectual History, and the American Political Science Review, as well as magazines like Dissent, The Nation, The New Republic, and n+1.
